Are you looking for a gentle giant canine companion to become part of your family?
Are you committed to your animals as if they were two-legged children? Would you like to adopt a rescue dog and by doing so, help save others who deserve a second chance?
Save The Giants (STG) volunteers are dedicated to our rescue dogs, our mission and to a consistently creating a positive adoption experience for our dogs’ forever families. We work hard to match you with a dog that will be a good fit for you, your family and your lifestyle as we believe a rescue dog should enrich your life as much as you will theirs.
If you are interested in adopting any of our dogs, please familiarize yourself with our process so that you know what to expect along each step of the way.
1. Submit an adoption application
All potential adopters must first submit an adoption application. The adoption application gives our volunteers a good starting point on finding an appropriate dog for your lifestyle and home environment.
-
Download the Save The Giants adoption application.
-
Complete the application in its entirety. (Incomplete applications will not be considered.) Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions about the application.
-
Save the document in this format: LAST NAME-STG ADOPTION APP
-
Return completed adoption application to us via email, fax or USPS mail (see below for our contact information).
NOTE: The application asks you to use or create an electronic signature. Instructions to complete the digital signature are here. If you cannot create a digital signature, please print the application and manually sign it.

Please allow 48 hours for our volunteers to process the application.
3. Finding the right match
An adoption coordinator reviews your application and all information provided by the volunteers who contacted your references and completed your home visit. The adoption coordinator, takes into consideration any dogs you may have shown interest in to determine if there is an appropriate match for you and your family. While we try our best to match you with the dog you are interested in, it’s possible that, based on your needs or those of the STG rescue dog, the dog(s) you’d initially shown interest in won’t be the right fit. Our adoption coordinators will be there for you throughout the process to help you find the best possible match for your lifestyle.
If we don’t have a dog available for adoption that fits your needs at the time your application is approved, your approved application will be considered valid and current for up to six months as long as your living situation (where you live and who lives with you) doesn’t change. If it does, please let us know.
2. Home Visit
To ensure that both potential adopters and Save The Giants rescue dogs are set up for success, we require a home visit prior to approving any adopter. The visit will be scheduled with you by one of our volunteers, and all members of your family are required to be present for this crucial step in our adoption process.
The home visit provides an opportunity for STG to understand the dynamic of your household (including any other animals) and for the volunteer to answer any questions you may have about what it means to adopt a rescue dog, bringing a giant breed dog into your home and anything else you’d like to learn about STG in general. The volunteer visiting your home will likely be accompanied by a large or giant breed dog so that all members of your household have an opportunity to interact with a dog that is similar in size to one you may be interested in adopting.
We know you’re excited about the potential of adopting a dog through Save The Giants, and we will do our best to follow up with you within 72 hours of your home visit.
4. Finalizing the adoption
Prior to placing a dog in his/her forever home, all adoptions will be approved by a STG board member. All adopters are required to sign an adoption contract when adopting a dog through STG and to make a donation for their dogs’ adoption fee.
Additional information about our adoption process:
-
Save the Giants representatives do not reserve or promise any dog to any applicant prior to being approved for adoption, which means successfully completing the adoption application and home visit process.
-
If at any step in the process Save the Giants or any of its representatives feel that the situation is not right for a specific dog, we reserve the right to deny your application or to offer to match your family with a different dog.
-
The minimum required donation to adopt a dog from Save the Giants rescue is $375. This donation is non-refundable. We require a minimum donation because we are looking for adopters who want to support rescue efforts and who understand that their donated adoption fee will be used to help Save The Giants help other dogs in need. Save The Giants may spend anywhere from several hundred to several thousand dollars on each dog; seniors, dogs who need expensive medical care like heartworm treatment, those with mange and other needs due to abuse or neglect often require care and treatment which will far exceed their adoption fee. Adoption donations received for young, healthy and highly adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for others with greater needs. We believe in giving all of our dogs an opportunity at a better life and without the help of the most adoptable dogs, we wouldn’t be able to support those who need a little more TLC.
